Podcast: BattleSpace 9

My friend and fellow playwright Carl Danielson just launched a podcast comparing episodes of Deep Space Nine and the reimagined Battlestar Galactica, BattleSpace Nine! And I'm one of the guests on the newest episode, BS9 Ep. 05 Soldiers of the Empire + Act of Contrition = ”Getting Back Up”. 

Along with my usual joy of discussing media, I hope sci-fi fans will be interested in my defense of depressing, pro-wallow television when you're already bummed, my enthusiasm for director Julie Taymor's Titus (1999), the ways writers explore personal biases through fiction, my adoration for complex female characters, particularly one played by Katee Sackhoff, and the impact of Shakespeare. I'm really pleased I signed on for this episode.

I was recently featured on a podcast by Julia Rios, who has edited my work in such places as Strange Horizons and Fireside Magazine, and Geoffrey Pelton. This is Why We're Like This is a childhood nostalgia comedy podcast where guests revisit media from their youth. As someone who invested a lot of time in watching television as a kid and loves talking about media these days, I was deeply pleased to be a part of two episodes of this podcast!

On A Rugrats Chanukah, talking about growing up Jewish in the American Midwest and the awfulness of Angelica Pickles!

Yesterday, they released the episode for How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966). What was supposed to be a short episode grew into a buck wild conversation that touches on everything from WWII propaganda racism to the Onceler fandom. Content warning for, well, everything!

Cat Days of Summer

August has been busy.

I have a new job and a new roommate. His name is Lionel. I picked him up from Kitty Connection a couple weeks ago. He's sweet and well behaved and likes to bully me awake by purring and buffeting me with his face. He's two-years old and the best.

One of my poems will be published at Strange Horizons soon! I'll be blasting social media about it when it appears.

The More (Than) Human podcast is ten episodes old! Yay! Go listen to it for all my thoughts on superheroes, etc.

I've been updating my art blog more. I'm wondering if I should try doing some illustrated projects.

It's almost fall. After the heat waves this summer, I'm looking forward to it.

More (Than) Human Podcast

My buddy, gaming enthusiast Josh Geller, who has a really quite nice condenser microphone, and I started a podcast, More (Than) Human! We were already having long conversations where we discussed science fictional characters and superheroes. We just decided to record them.

The episodes up right now are about Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Guardians of the Galaxy. They are two...very, very different episodes.

I've set up a Patreon to help with costs. More on that in a future post.
